Patan is one of the most ancient cities of Gujarat, founded by the first Chavda ruler, Vanraj Chavda. It was named Anahilvada. Apart from Chavda, it was ruled by other dynasties like Solanki and Vaghela. Patan served as the capital of ancient Gujarat for considerable amount of time and today represents ancient Gujarat very well. Its popular tourist spots include Rani Ki Vav and Sahasralinga Talav, that are the ruins of the old city. There is also an old fort, the remains of which entice history-lovers. Patan is popular for its Patola sarees and Mashru weaving. The intricate patterns on Patola sarees and Mashrus depict the immense talent that the artisans are blessed with.
